Carnation Comeback

CARNATION COMEBACK

Carnations have stood the test time. They are an amazing flower that is now trending all over Pinterest. They used to have a stigma as an outdated and cheap flower.  Call the carnation what you want, but they have made a comeback and we are very happy about it.

Carnations have had a makeover or a reinvention! The blooms now come in a variety of colors. They are bold, bright, long-lasting and affordable. They make an excellent choice for creating charm in your home, event, wedding or even craft project.

Carnations are inexpensive (which is a good thing) and extremely long lasting (they have an average life span of three weeks). The blooms have the same lush, textured effect as pricier blooms and are not temperamental.

Here are a few reasons to use carnations.

  1. ROMANTIC HISTORY

As with many flowers, carnations have its own love language. Originating in the Mediterranean region, the carnations were exchanged between lovers for centuries. In the Victorian area, carnations were used by women to respond to a secret admirer. If an admirer asked to meet at the ball or dance or maybe for a picnic, she could respond with a single solid colored carnation which meant “yes” and a yellow carnation meant “no.”

  1. COLOR AND LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS

Carnations come in a large variety of colors. If you have a special someone in your life that has a favorite color, you can almost be certain that you can find the perfect color match. Carnations come in varieties from pink to yellow, and even deep dark gorgeous purples. You can choose the color also by the color meaning.

  • Red: admiration
  • Deep Red: romantic love
  • Pink: gratitude
  • White: purity and friendship
  • Yellow: happiness
  • Purple: royalty
  1. CARNATIONS ARE AFFORDABLE

Carnations are not as pricy as roses but can still give you a glam look. They got a bad rap for being a “cheap” flower, but don’t listen to that! Who wouldn’t want a beautiful flower that is inexpensive, super hardy and can enhance any flower arrangement?

  1. NOT JUST A FILLER FLOWER

Like I said above, these flowers can enhance an arrangement or stand alone.  They make the cutest pomander balls for flower girls or even a beautiful flower wand.  You should see them placed all together in bunches mixed with greenery on a flower hoop or arch.  BEAUTIFUL!

  1. CARNATIONS ARE STURDY

Carnations have a sturdy stem and are not top heavy. They do not wilt like a hydrangea, but when bunched together, they can have the same look without the worry of wilting. In fact, they are known as the sturdiest, long lasting flowers around. So, when thinking of basing a love language for marriage on flowers, a carnation is the one that truly stands the test of time.
